About Project

The site is located outside Weza, just off District Road 862 which serves as a link to Main Road 61 on the north western side and Main Road 59 on the north eastern side which leads to the N2.
The proposed new bridge is located on the Weza River. This local area is called Esitezi which is located to the south west of Harding and approximately 90 km west of Port Shepstone. The site co-ordinates are S 300 41’ 39”; E 29048’13”.
The Weza River flows generally in a north to south direction. The river source is located approximately 40 km upstream.
The site falls under the IZINGOLWENI RRTF area of the Durban Region. The Ntaba Primary school is located on the north western side of the Weza River.

The Result

The bridge consists of three spans, two of which are 14 meters and a centre span of 17 meters.
The bridge deck is supported on reinforced concrete piers which are approximately 6.4 meters high and founded on bed-rock in the river bed. The abutments are situated on the river banks.
The three span Bridge is to be constructed over the Weza River, in the Umuziwabantu Local Municipality approximately 20km North West of Izingolweni. The two piers are situated on the edge of the river banks and are founded on solid bedrock. The abutments are set back into the river banks and are founded on bedrock.
